He is the son of Vaudevile actor Clarence Stroud who was
one of the famous Stroud twins. Clarence's brother was
Claude Stroud who starred in such movies as
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) and
All About Eve (1950). Don's mother was the singer Anne
McCormack who sang in Honolulu, Hawaii where Don grew up. Don was
once the number four surf champion in the world. He learned the
craft from such legends as Turkey Love and Blackout. So he was a
natural to play The Kahuna in the New Gidget series. he once did
a nude centerfold for Playgirl in 1974. Upon arriving in LA in
the 60s, he did a variety of jobs: bouncer then manager of the
Whisky A Go Go Bar on Sunset and valet parker for La Strada
restaurant before Sidney Poitier steered him on his acting
career path.
