Gil Bellows was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. He has taken part in many different movies, like "Miami Rhapsody", "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Richard III". His television apperances before Ally McBeal was for example roles in the series "Law & Order" and "Going to Extremes". Gil’s theater credits include "A Snake in the Vein", "Best of Schools", King Lear and "Diary of Anne Frank". Gil has also been a reader on Random House Audio Book of "Exit to Eden" by Anne Rice. Gil married Rya Kihlstedt in 1994, and they live in Los Angeles.
