James Christopher Read was born on 31 July 1953 in Buffalo, New York. He never dreamt about acting until college. He studied law, but near to graduation, he discovered his love for acting. He joined a theatrical group in Denver. His movie and TV career started in 1982, when he played one of the main roles in the Remington Steele series and started to guest-appear in different popular series. The most important moment was the year 1985 when he received role of George Hazard in the mini-series - North and South). In 1986 Read played Hazard once again in "North and South" sequel entitled North and South II (he reprised the role once again in 1994 in Heaven & Hell: North & South, Book III).
