Kenneth Howard Norton was born Jacksonville, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He boxed on the Marine Corps boxing team and compiled a record of 24-2 with 22 knockouts.
He was the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, 1978.
He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, 1992.
